JD Vance Demands Nuclear Cuts to End Iran War
Vice President JD Vance says Iran must meaningfully reduce nuclear enrichment capacity to end a seven-month conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Vice President JD Vance stated that Iran must make a meaningful reduction in its nuclear enrichment capacity, specifically regarding 60% enriched fuel, to end a seven-month war between the two nations. Speaking after a campaign trip to Alaska, Vance argued that the United States requires concrete actions rather than diplomatic assurances to reach a settlement.
While the U.S. and Iran have exchanged proposals to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump has rejected Tehran's latest offer. Trump warned that military operations could intensify following the November midterm elections. The ongoing conflict costs the U.S. approximately $3 billion per month and has impacted global energy prices.
Negotiations remain complicated by U.S. uncertainty regarding Iran's decision-making structure following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in joint U.S.-Israeli strikes. Although the U.S. is in talks with President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, Vance questioned their actual authority. Esmaeil Baghaei, a spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, rejected these claims and attributed the diplomatic friction to contradictory messaging from U.S. officials.
