Donald Trump Rejects Global Governance at UN General Assembly

President Donald J. Trump addressed the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he asserted that American strength has returned and rejected the concept of a global government. He vowed that there would be no global taxes while he is president and highlighted his administration's 15 percent cut to the 2026 U.N. budget, which eliminated over 4,000 bureaucratic positions.

Trump specifically blocked a proposed global carbon tax on international shipping by the International Maritime Organization, arguing it would raise costs by 10 to 20 percent. He also criticized the International Criminal Court as being out of control and condemned the U.N. Human Rights Council and UNESCO over their stances on immigration and transgender issues. On technology, he announced the U.S. government would replace the term artificial intelligence with super intelligence in official documents and opposed international safeguards for the technology, contradicting a final address by Secretary-General António Guterres.

Regarding national security, Trump labeled the Islamic Republic of Iran the primary sponsor of terror and vowed the nation would never possess a nuclear weapon. He also noted that the U.S. has designated drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and is using military force to eliminate them. Following the speech, Trump welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping. Outside the assembly, he criticized CNN for covering the event after he had banned several media outlets from the White House.
