North Korea Condemns NATO Summit and Vows Nuclear Growth

The Government of North Korea denounced a NATO summit in Turkey, rejecting denuclearization efforts and pledging to strengthen its nuclear arsenal.

The Government of North Korea condemned the United States and its allies on Saturday following a NATO summit in Ankara, Türkiye. Through its foreign ministry and state media, Pyongyang characterized NATO as a "war and confrontation body" and accused the alliance of exacerbating instability in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region through a "reckless eastward advance policy."

During the summit, NATO officials announced over $50 billion in military procurement and industrial agreements. U.S. President Donald Trump used the gathering to pressure European allies to increase defense spending, while South Korean President Lee Jae Myung expressed interest in expanding Seoul's cooperation with NATO in weapons production and technology.

In response, North Korea rejected calls for complete denuclearization, asserting that its nuclear forces are essential for national security. Pyongyang argued that denuclearization efforts are "irreversibly terminated" and should instead target the nuclear ambitions of NATO members, Japan, and South Korea. The government vowed to accelerate its military modernization to deter collective confrontation.

Amidst these tensions, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un strengthened ties with China. President Xi Jinping reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to its friendship treaty with Pyongyang, with both leaders stating that bilateral relations have reached a "new strategic level."
