Donald Trump Advocates Militarism and Rejects Global Rules at UN

President Donald Trump delivered a speech at the United Nations General Assembly advocating for a militaristic United States unbound by international rules. He rejected the global regulation of artificial intelligence as a "globalist scheme," urged nations to abandon the International Criminal Court, and claimed U.S. control over Venezuelan oil. Trump also stated he faced a "big decision" regarding whether to negotiate a deal or "annihilate" the Islamic Republic of Iran.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Bilal Faruqi later clarified that the administration's three primary priorities at the UN are peace, prosperity, and sovereignty. Faruqi emphasized that Iran must cease its nuclear weapons development and stop supporting Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis. Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Faruqi noted the U.S. remains open to negotiations, a sentiment echoed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who expressed a desire to end the war before winter.

Other world leaders countered Trump's vision. French President Emmanuel Macron called for a recommitment to international law, while UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned against the use of "killer robots" and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank. Simultaneously, the United States expanded its strategic footprint by signing a security deal with Denmark to establish two military bases in Greenland and bar non-NATO and non-EU influence in strategic sectors.
