Macron Rejects Trump's AI Map Claiming French Territory

French President Emmanuel Macron criticized U.S. President Donald Trump after Trump shared an AI-generated map on social media that depicted the French overseas territory of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon as part of the United States. Speaking to reporters on Saturday during a visit to the archipelago for talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Macron stated it was "obvious" that the territory remains French.

The dispute occurs amid broader diplomatic tensions between the two nations. The U.S. government has delayed approval for France's new ambassador, Aurelien Lechevallier, and a French UN mission recently apologized for criticizing U.S. human rights records.

Since returning to office in early 2025, Trump has made similar claims regarding the Panama Canal, Canada, and Greenland. He recently secured an agreement for "permanent control" over the security of Greenland.
