Gaza Remains Devastated Three Years After Hamas Attack
The Gaza Strip remains in ruins with dire humanitarian conditions despite a 2025 ceasefire, as Israel continues systematic demolition of infrastructure.
Three years after the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, the Gaza Strip remains devastated. Although Donald Trump announced a ceasefire in October 2025 that ended major offensives, the Israeli military continues to systematically demolish buildings and infrastructure in Rafah, Jabaliya, and Beit Hanoun to destroy Hamas tunnel networks.
Israel currently controls approximately 60 percent of the territory and maintains a blockade on essential goods and construction materials, which has stalled large-scale reconstruction. The Palestinian Health Ministry reports more than 74,200 Palestinians killed, and over 80 percent of buildings in the region are damaged.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for a permanent ceasefire and a political path to peace. In contrast, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has placed the military on high alert, warning that Gazans would pay a "heavy price" if Israeli forces are harmed. Doctors Without Borders has accused Israel of continuing a genocide and asphyxiating the region.
