James Talarico Criticizes Biden Border Policies in Senate Race

Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico criticized Joe Biden's border security failures during a Fort Worth town hall while proposing a focus on violent criminal deportations.

Texas State Representative and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico criticized former President Joe Biden's immigration policies during a town hall in Fort Worth on Wednesday. Talarico stated that Biden "failed us during his administration by not securing the border," describing the resulting situation as "utter chaos."

Positioning himself as a border security Democrat, Talarico proposed modernizing checkpoints and shifting the focus of deportations toward violent criminals rather than families. He also condemned current United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement tactics under President Donald Trump, comparing some operations to a "secret police force" and citing the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston.

Talarico's Republican opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, has aligned with President Trump's platform by pledging to complete the border wall and deport criminal illegal aliens. While Paxton maintains an advantage among voters who prioritize immigration, a New York Times/Siena University poll shows Talarico leading overall with 51 percent support compared to Paxton's 45 percent.
