Trump Urges Zelenskyy to Settle With Putin Amid Escalating Strikes

President Donald Trump called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to settle with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting at the UN General Assembly in New York. Trump expressed hope that the two leaders would reach a deal before winter, though conflicting reports emerged regarding whether he specifically urged Zelenskyy to travel to Moscow for talks. While Bloomberg reported that Zelenskyy rejected such a proposal, a Ukrainian communications advisor and a senior U.S. official denied the claim.

Simultaneously, aerial warfare intensified on September 26, leaving at least 10 people dead. Russian strikes targeted residential homes, schools, and a data center in Kyiv, as well as infrastructure in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy. In response, Ukrainian forces launched long-range drone strikes against Russian industrial sites, killing three people and damaging the Ilsky oil refinery in the Krasnodar region.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to the United Nations and European leaders for stricter sanctions and the implementation of the Lindsey Graham Act to impose 100 percent tariffs on Russia and its financiers. He warned that the world must provide stronger responses to keep the war from spreading. While Vladimir Putin stated that peace proposals are on the table, the status of the Donetsk region remains a primary point of contention, and Ukraine continues to demand an unconditional ceasefire before formal negotiations begin.
