President Lee Jae Myung Visits UN and Mexico

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung began a seven-day diplomatic tour on Monday, visiting New York and Mexico City to advance national security and economic interests. In New York, Lee is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, where he will propose UN reforms and a blueprint for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.

While in the United States, Lee will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and U.S. President Donald Trump. Discussions with Trump will focus on national interests and a $350 billion investment commitment from South Korea. Lee is also slated to attend the Korea Investment Summit 2026 on Wednesday to pitch AI policies and financial market reforms, while engaging leaders from nations including Australia to discuss cooperation in semiconductors, energy, and science.

Following the UN events, Lee will travel to Mexico for the first South Korean state visit to the country in 16 years. At the invitation of President Claudia Sheinbaum, Lee will hold a summit on Thursday to discuss expanding bilateral trade and securing energy supply chains. The visit will focus on cooperation in AI, aviation, and national defense, specifically regarding Mexico's military modernization projects. Lee's itinerary in Mexico City includes a business forum and a K-Expo before his return to Seoul on Sunday.
