Trump Claims Record Oil Flow From Strait of Hormuz

President Donald Trump claimed Tuesday that the United States has extracted more oil from the Strait of Hormuz over the last few days than at any point in history. Speaking from the White House, Trump asserted that Iran is doing poorly and predicted the country will eventually give up. These claims follow a conflict launched by the U.S. and Israel on February 28 to stop Iran's nuclear program, which led Tehran to effectively close the strategic waterway.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf dismissed the president's claims as delusional and warned that no infrastructure would be safe if Iran's security is not ensured. Trump recently rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the strait, calling the offer unacceptable.

Despite the rhetoric, the U.S. and Iran are conducting indirect talks in New York via Qatari mediators. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is involved in these consultations, where U.S. officials indicated Trump is open to releasing frozen funds and providing sanctions relief in exchange for concrete progress on nuclear issues.
