Putin Condemns Ukraine Drone Strikes as Zelensky Meets Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the 8th State Duma in Moscow on July 27, 2026, asserting that Russia will achieve its goals in the special military operation. He characterized recent Ukrainian long-range drone strikes as openly terrorist methods, claiming Ukraine has resorted to such tactics because it cannot defeat Russia on the battlefield. Putin also accused Western nations of employing a Russophobic machine and attempting to strangle the Russian economy through sanctions.

These remarks followed a series of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting the Hydrostalkonstruktsiya steel fabrication plant in Chekhov, a logistics warehouse in Koledino, and Wildberries facilities in St. Petersburg. Other strikes hit an electric substation in Feodosia, Crimea, and a holiday camp in Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia, where at least 12 civilians were killed. Conversely, the Ukrainian government has accused Moscow of terrorism following Russian ballistic missile and drone strikes on residential areas in Kyiv.

Simultaneously, President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Washington for a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. Zelensky sought to strengthen the defense partnership and increase domestic military production. This follows Trump's announcement at a NATO summit that the United States would allow Ukraine to produce anti-aircraft Patriot missiles.
