Andy Burnham Prepares for First Meeting With Donald Trump

Prime Minister Andy Burnham is preparing for a potential first face-to-face meeting with US President Donald Trump during the UN General Assembly in New York this September. Burnham defended previous remarks in which he described Trump's politics as "poisonous," stating that while he continues to say what he feels, he remains committed to finding common ground in the interest of the British public.

This diplomatic preparation follows a visit by Burnham to Kyiv, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to advocate for increased international air defense support for Ukraine. The UK's commitment to Ukraine continues through Defence Secretary Wes Streeting, who is scheduled to co-chair a meeting of the Ukraine defence contact group in September. That meeting will coordinate military assistance among 32 Nato members and 25 other nations.
