China Finalizes Commitment to Purchase 200 Boeing Jets

The Government of China is finalizing a commitment to purchase 200 Boeing jets, a deal first announced in May. This agreement marks the first major deal for the aerospace manufacturer in China in nearly a decade.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer confirmed that approximately 140 of these orders are in a good state, while another 10 are currently being documented. Although President Donald Trump previously suggested that China could potentially increase the order to 750 planes, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg has tempered expectations for new orders to coincide with the upcoming meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Ortberg characterized the 200-plane commitment as an initial tranche of a potentially larger deal. He noted that any future orders would be announced by the airlines at their own pace.
