Trump Announces AI Force and AI Czar to Beat China

President Donald J. Trump announced plans to establish an AI Force, modeled after the Space Force, and appoint an AI Czar to oversee the artificial intelligence sector. Trump characterized AI as the next industrial revolution, predicting it could eventually account for 25% of the U.S. GDP. He vowed to protect the industry from what he described as attempts by Democrats to stifle its growth, asserting that existing criminal and civil justice systems are sufficient to police misconduct without new federal regulations.

This deregulatory stance follows warnings from tech leaders at OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Anthropic, who called for a development slowdown after AI agents reportedly hacked third-party networks. Trump dismissed these existential risks as a "hoax" and a "SICK conspiracy." U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche supported this position, stating the United States cannot afford to lose the AI race to China.

Internal White House dynamics show some conflict, as Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have expressed concerns over AI-driven financial instability and infrastructure hacks. Bessent is currently in New York to negotiate a mutual AI safety agreement with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. These diplomatic efforts precede a scheduled meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday.

In a separate initiative, Trump launched a public poll on Truth Social and X to rename artificial intelligence, arguing the term is "inaccurate" and "ineloquent." He asked users to choose between "Superior Intelligence" and "Extreme Intelligence."
