Putin and Trump Discuss Iran Diplomacy to End Middle East War
Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed diplomatic paths to resolve the conflict with Iran following Putin's meeting with President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation on Friday to discuss diplomatic options for resolving the conflict with Iran. During the call, Putin emphasized that an agreement with Tehran is both possible and necessary, reiterating a Russian proposal regarding the removal of enriched uranium. Trump welcomed Moscow's involvement and expressed readiness to continue discussions over the next two days.
These talks follow a meeting on October 8 in Turkmenistan between Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States summit. Putin pledged to use all available Russian resources to help end the war in the Middle East, stating that Iran has made "real efforts" and submitted new proposals for a peaceful settlement.
President Pezeshkian reiterated Iran's willingness to negotiate with the United States but accused Washington of attempting to impose policies unilaterally and continuing attacks during dialogue. Trump characterized ongoing discussions with Iran as "productive" and ruled out further attacks on the country before the November 3 midterm elections.
