Israel Adopts Zero-Tolerance Policy Toward Gaza Kites

The Government of Israel has adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward kites and balloons launched from Gaza into Negev settlements, treating them as drones regardless of whether they carry explosives. Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the military to take powerful actions if launches continue, following reports of four kites landing in the Nahal Oz kibbutz over a weekend. While the Israeli army found no suspicious materials on these specific kites, officials cited a history of incendiary kites causing wildfires between 2018 and 2021.

Concurrent military strikes and tank fire killed at least four Palestinians, including a 4-year-old and a 10-year-old girl, in the Bureij and Shati refugee camps, Deir al-Balah, and Khan Younis. The Israeli military stated it targeted Hamas weapons storage facilities inside mosques in Gaza City and Deir al-Balah. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem dismissed the kites as children's toys used by Israel to justify continued aggression.

On Monday, the Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip reported that Israeli forces have killed more than 21,500 children and targeted 1,244 of the enclave's 1,275 mosques since October 2023, with 1,077 completely destroyed. These developments occur despite a US-brokered ceasefire that began in October 2025 and a recent request from US negotiator Jared Kushner for Prime Minister Netanyahu to draw down attacks to advance a ceasefire deal.
