Ukraine Faces Critical Patriot Missile Shortage Amid US Tensions
Ukraine reports a critical shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles as tensions rise between President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump over Russian energy sanctions.
Ukraine is experiencing a critical shortage of PAC interceptor missiles for its US-made Patriot air defense systems, with some reports indicating stocks are completely exhausted. This scarcity has left civilian infrastructure and power plants vulnerable to Russian ballistic missile attacks, including an October 14 strike on three power plants in Kyiv that killed four people. The shortage is attributed to a global munitions deficit, worsened by the United States firing over 1,000 missiles during a conflict in the Middle East involving Iran.
Volodymyr Zelensky is facing deteriorating relations with US President Donald Trump. Tensions have escalated following Trump's decision to ease energy sanctions on Moscow to resume Russian diesel exports and his request that Ukraine cease strikes on Russian oil refineries. While a senior NATO official claims munitions continue to arrive via the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, Ukrainian sources describe the deliveries as irregular and uncertain.
