World Leaders Gather in Bishkek for World Nomad Games

Kyrgyzstan opened the 6th World Nomad Games on August 31, 2026, at the Bishkek Arena Stadium. The event, which runs through September 6, features traditional equestrian competitions, archery, and wrestling designed to preserve the heritage of nomadic civilizations.

Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, attended the ceremony alongside other international leaders during the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. Following bilateral discussions, Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin traveled together to the stadium. During their meeting, Modi advocated for peace in Ukraine, stating that moving from an "endless war to an end to war" is essential for the well-being of humanity.

Other high-level attendees included Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. First Lady Emine Erdogan used the occasion to congratulate Kyrgyzstan on the 35th anniversary of its Independence Day, praising the richness of nomadic culture and ancient traditions.
