Governor Shapiro Blames Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Measles Outbreak

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro accused U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. of fueling vaccine distrust and contributing to a measles outbreak in Lancaster County. The outbreak has infected over 400 people and resulted in two deaths among the unvaccinated. Shapiro noted that state vaccination rates for kindergartners have fallen to 92.7%, which is below the threshold required for community immunity.

Shapiro claimed that Kennedy's rhetoric and efforts to dismantle public health agencies caused public confusion. The governor declined a phone call from Kennedy offering federal assistance. In response, Kennedy used social media to dispute the claims, arguing that public faith in vaccines was damaged by government overreach and deceptions during the Covid-19 pandemic rather than his own actions.

Adding to the tension, President Donald Trump signed an executive order requesting that the combined MMR vaccine be split into three separate shots. Health experts have warned that this change could lead to an increase in people skipping vaccinations.
