S. Jaishankar Leads Diplomatic Push for Indo-Pacific Security in Manila

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar conducted a series of high-level diplomatic meetings in Manila from July 22 to 23, 2026, focusing on regional stability and the India-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Addressing the ASEAN Post-Ministerial Conference, Jaishankar warned that energy, food, and health security can no longer be taken for granted in a turbulent global environment. He emphasized the necessity of deeper cooperation to de-risk and diversify interests, specifically noting that 2026 is the ASEAN-India year of maritime cooperation.

Parallel to the ASEAN engagements, Jaishankar participated in a Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting with officials from the United States, Australia, and Japan. During a bilateral session with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the two discussed the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, focusing on critical minerals, artificial intelligence, trade, and defense. The Quad ministers collectively reaffirmed their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific and the principle of ASEAN centrality.

Jaishankar's visit also included bilateral talks with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Philippines Foreign Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro. These discussions aimed to expand the India-Philippines Strategic Partnership and build on recent diplomatic outcomes between India and Australia. The visit coincides with the Philippines' 2026 ASEAN Chairship, operating under the theme "Navigating Our Future, Together."
