Modi Urges Putin to End Ukraine War at SCO Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the conflict in Ukraine during the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. During their bilateral talks, Modi stated there is a need to move from "endless war to end of war." Putin responded that Russia is "moving in this direction" and praised the strategic partnership between the two nations.

The summit, marking the 25th anniversary of the SCO, brought together leaders from 10 member states, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In addition to his meeting with Putin, Modi held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, their first meeting in two years. The gathering included a roundtable discussion led by Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov focused on regional security, connectivity, and economic cooperation.

Modi's participation in the summit followed a four-day Central Asia tour, which included bilateral talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Uzbekistan. Prior to the summit sessions, Modi attended the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games in Bishkek to greet an 87-member Indian contingent.
