Donald Trump Cuts Ukraine Aid and Intelligence Support

Following his re-election, Donald Trump shifted U.S. policy toward Ukraine from the support provided by the previous administration to a strategy of abandonment. Trump sought an immediate ceasefire based on his rapport with Vladimir Putin and voted against a UN General Assembly resolution condemning Russian aggression. He further demanded access to Ukraine's mineral wealth as repayment for previous aid.

Diplomatic relations deteriorated during an Oval Office meeting in Washington, D.C., where Vice President JD Vance accused President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of disrespecting the president. This confrontation led to Zelenskyy's removal from the White House and a temporary cutoff of U.S. intelligence to Ukrainian forces.

A subsequent summit in Alaska between Trump and Putin failed to produce a compromise. Putin demanded the total surrender of Ukrainian territory, a claim Secretary of State Marco Rubio later denied had been agreed upon. Despite Trump's shift in policy, Putin has reportedly remained disappointed that a full Ukrainian surrender has not yet been delivered.
