Trump Proposes Trilateral Talks as Zelenskyy Rejects Moscow Meeting

President Donald Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to travel to Moscow for peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin during meetings at the United Nations. Zelenskyy declined the request, stating he would only visit Moscow "on a missile." To break the deadlock, Trump proposed restarting diplomatic discussions through technical-level trilateral talks between delegations from the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia, with the United Arab Emirates suggested as a potential venue.

Vladimir Putin stated that proposals to resume talks are "on the table" following recent Russian parliamentary elections, but he asserted that Ukrainian attacks on Moscow and polling stations have necessitated retaliatory responses. Putin emphasized that any settlement must be based on Russian interests and denied that Russia is preparing for military action against Europe.

In a series of diplomatic maneuvers, Secretary of State Marco Rubio invited Putin to the G20 summit in Florida this December to engage with world leaders. While the Kremlin initially welcomed the invitation, it later stated it was too early to confirm attendance. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy requested that Trump pressure Chinese President Xi Jinping to use Beijing's influence to end the conflict.

On the security front, Trump granted Ukraine licenses to produce Patriot missiles domestically. However, tensions persist over energy infrastructure; Trump urged a halt to Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil facilities to curb global diesel prices, while Zelenskyy maintains such strikes are necessary unless Russia stops targeting Ukrainian energy assets.
