Ukraine Rejects Trump-Putin Peace Proposal Over Territorial Claims

First deputy head of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office Sergiy Kyslytsya has rejected the "3+2" peace framework, known as the Anchorage formula. This proposal, stemming from an August 2025 summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, would have granted Russia claims over five Ukrainian regions. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the failure of the proposal due to Ukraine's rejection.

Kyslytsya asserts that Ukraine currently holds the "upper hand" in the war, citing a stagnant Russian battlefield advance and successful long-range drone strikes against Russian oil and gas facilities. Ukraine's current objective for ending the conflict is to freeze fighting along the existing frontline without recognizing occupied territories as Russian.

While official U.S.-mediated negotiations have stalled as the Trump administration focuses on a conflict with Iran, Kyslytsya maintains that dialogue remains active. He believes a direct meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Vladimir Putin could still take place within the current year.
