While Israeli media suggested Vice President JD Vance attempted to block that earlier meeting to prevent Netanyahu from pushing a harder line on Iran, the White House dismissed those reports as fake news.

The upcoming meeting occurs as the relationship between the two leaders strains over Iran deal negotiations and U.S. pressure for Israel to withdraw forces from Syria and Lebanon. Simultaneously, Donald Trump has signaled a shift toward escalation, stating he is considering a massive attack against Iran that would be bigger than ever before. He indicated that while Israel would likely participate, the United States does not require outside assistance for the operation.

In response to the pressure, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected U.S. threats, stating that Iran will not accept a temporary ceasefire. Araghchi emphasized that protecting Iranian interests in the Strait of Hormuz remains a core principle. As the two nations coordinate, the Israeli Cabinet has moved to its highest alert level in anticipation of a potential escalation.
