Jeffrey Sachs Calls for Multipolar World Order in India
Economist Jeffrey Sachs argues that Western dominance has ended and urges India, China, and Russia to restrain American unilateralism.
American economist Jeffrey Sachs declared that the era of Western dominance has ended, asserting that global stability now depends on a multipolar order led by four superpowers: India, China, Russia, and the United States. Speaking from Varanasi, India, Sachs argued that the U.S. continues to dangerously pursue a defunct hegemony.
Sachs specifically cited the risk of war with Iran and claimed that Donald Trump's tariff policies and military conflicts have destabilized the world economy. He urged leaders Narendra Modi, Xi Jinping, and Vladimir Putin to restrain American unilateralism and replace hostile military alliances with peaceful, law-based cooperation.
To strengthen the international order, Sachs advocated for the United Nations Security Council to add India as a permanent sixth member. He argued that the UN Charter should serve as the primary basis for global cooperation to ensure a stable transition to a multipolar world.
