China Hosts World AI Conference and Pledges Global Training
China opened the 2026 World AI Conference in Shanghai, debuting humanoid robots and pledging 5,000 AI training opportunities for developing countries.
The 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance opened Friday in Shanghai. The event features exhibits of smart devices and AI-integrated entertainment, with a primary focus on humanoid robots designed for industrial and daily use. Reports indicate that China expects its annual output of humanoid robots to surpass 100,000 units this year.
During the proceedings, the Government of China emphasized the balance between innovation and safety, introducing an action plan on international AI ethics governance to improve global cooperation. To support capacity building and the implementation of ethical principles, China committed to providing 5,000 AI training and seminar opportunities for developing countries over the next five years.
International officials praised China's early regulatory frameworks and its leadership in setting international standards. Experts highlighted the necessity for nations to possess the technical capacity to integrate ethical AI principles into their domestic legal systems.
