US and Russia Agree to Ship Diesel to Lower Prices
Donald Trump announced an agreement to import Russian diesel to reduce American fuel costs ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Russia to ship Russian diesel to the United States to lower fuel prices for consumers before the November 3 midterm elections. The deal follows a surge in pump prices caused by the ongoing war between the United States and Israel against Iran.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Alexander Novak stated that fuel will reach U.S. markets within 15 to 20 days once commercial contracts are finalized. While Novak noted that negotiations on commercial terms are currently underway, Kirill Dmitriev, the Kremlin’s adviser on international economic cooperation, previously indicated that contracts would be signed within days.
The initial shipment volume of 2.22 million barrels is significantly lower than the daily U.S. consumption of 3.9 million barrels. This discrepancy has led experts to suggest the accord may not meaningfully impact consumer costs.
