Trump Envoys Meet Ukraine Officials as Diesel Sanctions Lift

President Donald Trump's envoys are meeting Ukrainian officials in Miami to broker a peace deal while the U.S. lifts sanctions on Russian diesel exports.

United States Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are conducting a two-day working session with Ukrainian officials in Miami to develop a unified proposal to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Authorized by Donald Trump, the talks include representatives from the U.S. Treasury Department, the National Security Council, and national security advisors from NATO, the European Union, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Discussions are centered on security guarantees for Ukraine and a post-war prosperity plan.

Simultaneously, President Trump reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to lift sanctions on Russian diesel exports. Trump stated that securing lower prices for Americans is his "Greatest Priority." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the move, calling it a "birthday present for Putin" and asserting that Russia will "repay" the diesel with further terror.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio characterized the current conflict as a "very dangerous" stalemate. Rubio emphasized that the United States does not believe there is a military solution to the war, necessitating a negotiated settlement to prevent a broader regional conflict. While Zelenskyy expressed hope for a trilateral meeting in October, he noted that Russian forces remain focused on strikes against Ukraine and destabilization efforts across Europe.
